Royal Gorge National Park and Miniature RR
On one of our many vacations out west with the kids we visited Royal Gorge National Park.  The suspension bridge was closed for repairs, but we were allowed to walk across it.  The height above the water was frightening for me.  You can scarcely see the D& RG tracks running along the canyon wall below.

Back during the early days when this railroad line was being built, an actual war broke out between the workers of the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe RR and the Denver & Rio Grande RR over their right to build the line through the canyon.  The courts ultimately gave the D&RG rights to construct their line through the canyon.  While we were there we rode the miniature railroad.  The kids had a ball (so did dad).

The bridge is a long ways up there...

... and the tracks are a long ways down there!

The D&RG tracks are visible along
the right side of the canyon wall beside the river.

Isn't this a cute little fart?  As I recall,
it was powered by a Chrysler V8 engine.

Here is the engine coming back at us.  What a switch back!
Just kidding, it's another train.
