RGS Galloping Geese
When I reviewed these pictures I noted that they appeared to be taken on two different occasions.  On some of them the vegetation is Spring green and on others it is Fall brown.  The time period is probably from the late 70s to mid 80s.  The photos were taken in Dolores, Colorado, and at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden Colorado.  We put them together here because they look so good together.  The "Galloping Geese" as they were called were built in the Rio Grande Southern shops during the depression years when the demand for services was low and railroad couldn't come out financially running full size steam engines.

The geese were built by combining various car, truck, and bus bodies and equipping the resultant hybrid with drive lines which enabled them to be used to haul freight, mail and passengers on the narrow gauge lines.  The use of these strange hybrid vehicles enabled the Rio Grande Southern to stave off bankruptcy for a few more years.
