Denver & Rio Grande 315
315 is on display in a park in Durango, Colorado a short distance from the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge RR yard.   We had been driving in rain and snow most of the day and we were COLD.   The 315 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1895 for the D&RG for $8,000.00.   It was removed from service in 1949.  The engine was saved from the smelter by a citizens group in 1950 and given to the City of Durango.  This engine was later transported away from Durango and used in the production of the movie "Around the World in Eighty Days."  The use of the engine was conditional upon it's return to Durango in the same condition that it had been in when it was loaned.

315 was not fired up during filming of the movie.  a motorized boxcar behind the engine furnished the power and smoke was blown through the stack to give the impression that it was under steam.  The engine was returned to Durango in unacceptable colors (blue as I recall) and had to be repainted back to it's original paint scheme.
